Lulu Dates
The pearl of the Emirati harvest

The Mid-Season Date Worth Waiting For
Exquisite and unique, the Lulu date is a dark gem with a juicy texture and rounded form — small enough to earn its Arabic name, 'pearl'. Its arrival is eagerly anticipated across the Emirates, marking the middle of the harvest season when the palms are at their most generous.
What sets Lulu apart is balance. Its sugar concentration sits perfectly between the uber-caramel richness of Khalas and the milder, robust Fard — a clean, rounded sweetness that makes it dangerously easy to reach for one more.

A True Local Favourite
Lulu is one of the most popular locally grown varieties in the UAE, and ours comes from The Date Room's own farms in Al-Ain, within palm oases recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. Best enjoyed fresh, it is picked at its peak and handled gently from grove to table.
Alongside our Khalas and Fard, Lulu completes the trio at the heart of our Al-Ain harvest — three Emirati-grown characters, each with its own season and its own following.

About Lulu Dates
Lulu is a date variety beloved in the UAE — a small, rounded date with dark red-brown skin and a juicy texture. Lulu means 'pearl' in Arabic, a fitting name for its size and shape. It is one of the most popular locally grown varieties in the Emirates and a fixture of mixed date boxes.
Lulu sits in the sweet spot — literally. Its sugar concentration lands between the rich butter-caramel of Khalas and the milder, more robust Fard, giving a clean, balanced sweetness with a juicy, tender bite. It is at its very best eaten fresh.
Lulu arrives in the middle of the date harvest, with the Gulf season peaking around August and September. Its mid-season arrival is eagerly anticipated in the Emirates — a marker that the harvest is at its height.
Think of the three as a spectrum: Khalas is the golden butter-caramel classic, Fard the dark, robust keeper with molasses depth, and Lulu the juicy pearl in between — smaller, rounder, and balanced in sweetness. Tasting all three side by side is the best introduction to Emirati dates we know.
Yes — like all true dates, Lulu contains only naturally occurring sugars, is virtually fat-free, and brings dietary fibre, potassium and magnesium. Dates provide roughly 280 calories per 100 grams, around 20–25 calories per date.
Lulu is juicier than semi-dry varieties, so it rewards cooler storage. Keep it in an airtight container in the fridge, where it stays at its best for several months, and bring it to room temperature before serving. For longer keeping, dates freeze very well.
