Fard Dates

Fard Dates

The robust Gulf classic connoisseurs call the real deal

Fard dates from The Date Room farms in Al-Ain
Also Spelled Fardh

Dark, Robust, Unmistakable

The Fard date stands out the moment you see it: a robust structure wrapped in striking dark maroon-red skin, with a small seed and a generous, slightly chewy bite. Where softer dates whisper, Fard speaks plainly — moderate sweetness deepened by caramel and molasses, the flavour of the Gulf's everyday table.

The variety was born in Oman and has been grown across the Arabian Peninsula for generations, becoming one of the signature dates of the Emirates. Among connoisseurs here it has earned the simplest of compliments: the real deal.

Our Fard, From the Al-Ain Oasis

Our Fard grows alongside our Khalas in The Date Room's own Al-Ain farms, within palm oases recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. It is a natural keeper — semi-dry flesh that stores beautifully without losing its depth — which made it the travelling date of Gulf traders long before refrigeration.

In our kitchen, Fard's robust character carries bolder pairings: smoked almonds, fresh marzipan, pistachio, and Belgian chocolate with cardamom. Packed with minerals — calcium, iron, phosphorus — and free of fat and cholesterol, it earns its place in the pantry as well as the gift box.

Common Questions

About Fard Dates

Fard — also written Fardh — is a classic Gulf date variety with striking dark maroon to reddish-brown skin, a small seed, and a robust, satisfying bite. Its flavour is moderately sweet with rich undertones of caramel and molasses, which is why connoisseurs in the Emirates call it 'the real deal'.

The Fard variety originated in Oman and has been cultivated across the Arabian Peninsula for generations — today it is one of the signature dates of both Oman and the UAE. At The Date Room we grow Fard in our own farms in Al-Ain, within the UNESCO-recognised palm oases of the Emirates.

Expect a deeper, less sugary character than soft dessert dates: moderate sweetness carried by caramel and molasses notes, with a smooth, slightly chewy texture and a tender skin. The small seed means more fruit in every date.

Ajwa is a soft, almost black date grown in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, treasured in religious tradition and priced as a premium import. Fard is the Gulf's own everyday classic — darker-skinned, firmer, with molasses depth and a far friendlier price. They are different experiences: Ajwa is ceremonial, Fard is the date you stock the pantry with.

Like all true dates, Fard contains only naturally occurring sugars and is virtually fat-free and cholesterol-free. Dates are naturally rich in dietary fibre and minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron and phosphorus, providing roughly 280 calories per 100 grams — about 20–25 calories per date.

Fard is a natural keeper — its semi-dry flesh ships and stores exceptionally well. Keep it in an airtight container: one to three months at room temperature, six to twelve months refrigerated, and longer still in the freezer. Bring to room temperature before serving.
